Why do I have a /opt folder (on Mac)?

If you’re a Mac user, once you’ve upgraded to Pagico v4 you’ll notice that there’s a new folder named “opt” on your main drive. This folder, although very common on linux systems, is still kind of new to Mac users. It is there because of the new Command Line Interface (CLI) component, which provides feature support for Pagico Helper, and the Task CLI plugin which allows you to display To-do lists on your desktop.

This folder is there, instead of somewhere in your Application folder, is because we wanted to create a consistent environment for both Mac and Linux systems so that Linux savvy users can feel at home when they see the opt folder.

However, if you’re not comfortable with having an opt folder there, you can feel free to delete it if you don’t want to take advantage of the Task CLI plugin or the Pagico Helper. The rest functionalities of Pagico will not be affected.

Note

Starting from Pagico v4.0 r891, the Pagico Helper will still function even if the /opt folder is removed.

A requested addition to the FAQ:

Should I keep just one large database for all my projects, or should I split them up into multiple databases?

    Hi Rick,
That’s a great question. I’ll definitely cover that in the near future.

To answer your question directly: having smaller and more focuses databases might increase database portability (easy to move around) and program performance (it runs faster), but you might suffer from having to switch database frequently. So it’s really a matter of balance as they all have benefits and drawbacks. So you should really be the judge on this matter.

I hope this helps a little bit. :)
