Any progress on the Ubuntu 64bit package? I've just played around with getlibs, but I did not get it working... Hope shipping the 64bit variant is still an Ubuntu priority as I really want to try pagico!

Thanks

OLIC,

Give it a try - I did on a Ubuntu 9.04 system and it really wasn't hard. Look here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=474790
I basically used dpkg to install Pagico, then ran it from a terminal, figured out what libraries it was missing, and installed them with getlibs. Didn't take long at all.

@Elsdon,

I'm glad to know that you got it working on your 64bit machine. Keep me posted if it works great or not, all right? :)

I've just managed to install Pagico on a 64bit Jaunty system, with a bit of help from getlibs. It's not recommended of course, but right now it seems to be working fine. I couldn't wait to see how Pagico works, and just now (given that I'm on a Mac at work and Ubuntu at home, and saving database to Dropbox), this just looks like a brilliant solution.

"Due to many factors, the old Pagico v2.3 could not be upgraded to the latest Pagico v3.2.2. "

It seems that all the data of my pagico 2.3 will be lost when I upgrade to pagico 3.
Maybe I have to find a way to install both pagico2.3 and pagico3.0 in my system.

Hi Phanta,
Yes, the 64bit version of Pagico on Ubuntu is on the way, as the development and packaging for 64-bit systems were easier than we expected. But we really don't have plans to create packages and provide supports for Pagico on other non-Ubuntu linux systems.

Thanks! :D

Well, I'm sure there are people out there, including me, who would be willing to testdrive and report bugs, but without a proper "use-me-anywhere"-package, that won't be done. At least I don't want the hassle with .deb-files on my Gentoo and Solaris boxes.

Conerning x64, first OS X is 64bit, too and second, I might be wrong, but I'll guess your apps are for more or less powerusers of which most I now run x64 only. Even Adobe and Sun are now on the trip, so I'd say better jump on early, at least I'm not paying for 32bit-only soft and customers are who you make your apps for, right? ;)

cheers,
phanta

Hi Phanta,
We need to ensure it works before releasing anything to any new platform, and that includes extensive tests, creating patches if needed (most likely) and so on. So it doesn't make too much sense for us to put so much energy onto a less popular platform in terms desktop users.

And in the near future we *might* produce a 64 bit version for Ubuntu.

Hi fbj,
I doubt we'll produce one any time soon, due to the fact that only a few people are using the 64bit version right now.
